Bassoon I & II | Symphonie fantastique: Épisode de la vie d'un artist en cinq parties Op. 14, is a program symphoy written by the French composer Hector Berlioz in 1830. It is an important piece of the early Romantic period. Each of its five movements despicts an episode in the protagonist's life that is described by Berlioz in the program notes to the 1845 score. The fifth movement is called "Songe d'une nuit du sabbat" and tells how the protagonists sees a witches' sabbath, in the midst of a hideous gathering of shades, sorcerers and monsters of every kind who have come together for his funeral.
